Prostate examination with the Micro-Ultrason system – ExactVu

ExactVu micro-echography now allows urologists to carefully visualize, characterize, and then target suspect areas for biopsy – all in real time, in the office, and with micro-echography. Because prostate cancer is a diffuse disease, our urologists can use this “micro-echography” to gain a new level of detail in their prostate examinations. With the world’s first 29 Hz high resolution urological probe, our urologists are able to discern and distinguish suspicious features that are invisible at the usual frequencies.

The benefits of ExactVu micro-echography

The ExactVu micro ultrasound system is a real advance in ultrasound resolution. The system operates at 29 MHz. This translates into a 300% increase in resolution compared to conventional ultrasound systems, with a resolution comparable to MRI.

The micro-echography imaging session is quick (15 minutes) and painless. On the other hand, MRI can be claustrophobic, noisy, and you usually need a contrast injection which can be dangerous if you have kidney problems. The MR imaging session itself takes 20 to 40 minutes inside the magnet, plus all the preparation.

If you’re going to have a biopsy – which is the definitive method of prostate cancer diagnosis – don’t you want your urologist to use the most powerful imaging modality to visualize your prostate? By requesting a micro ultrasound, you are giving your urologist a powerful tool to visualize your prostate, differentiate suspicious areas, and then target those areas with his or her biopsies.

Benefits of ExactVu micro-echography

ExactVu micro ultrasound versus traditional methods

  • Micro-ultrasound has a 300% improvement in resolution over conventional ultrasound – which means our urologists can actually see and then target biopsies to suspicious areas of the prostate that cannot be seen with conventional ultrasound.
  • You only need one visit with our urologists to get your targeted biopsy by micro-echography. In contrast, with MRI, you go to your urologist, you are then referred for an MRI, and then you return to your urologist for a biopsy. That’s at least 3 separate visits.
  • The micro-echography imaging session is fast, quick and painless. On the other hand, MRI can be claustrophobic, noisy, and you usually need a contrast injection which can be dangerous if you have kidney problems. The MR imaging session itself takes 20 to 40 minutes inside the magnet, plus all the preparation.
