Vaginal Tightening Treatment

What Is a Vaginal Tightening?

To process vaginal tightening, we use the Erbium Yag 2940 nm high-precision laser. This intervention consists in a circumferential photothermal tightening of the vaginal tissue. We recommend this treatment to women living with a vaginal slackening. This slackening may be caused by multiple deliveries or a collagen loss in the vaginal mucous membrane due to aging.

Few studies have examined laser treatments in gynecology. Yet, there are some dermatological studies based on the same fundamental concepts. Clinical evaluations have shown a high-efficiency level, and a positive satisfaction rate.

What is the satisfaction rate?
Drs Riviera and Fistonic have demonstrated a correlation between vaginal tightening and sexual satisfaction. However, Erbium Yag laser efficacity has been mostly proven by the evaluation form completed by women that have tried this treatment, as well as by objective contraction measurements taken on the vaginal tissue.

We observed an average vaginal tightening of 17% on treated patients. The sexual satisfaction evaluation has been completed according to the Société Francophone de Médecine Sexuelle (SFMS) form and indicated an amelioration of 8.5 points on a 36-point scale.

The procedure is completely safe. It is easy to achieve without incision and lasts about 30 minutes. Mostly uncomfortable, the treatment is often completed without anesthesia, or with an anesthetic cream applied on vagina external area. It is performed at the clinic and does not require any particular preparation.

The healing is extremely fast with there’s no need for painkillers. Patients can get back to their day-to-day activities after one month. Please note that it is advisable to wait for a week or two before becoming sexually active.

For some patients, despite the fact that only one session or two can be sufficient to obtain a probative appreciation of the tightening effect, three sessions of treatment are done with a one-month interval each time. The price has been adjusted accordingly so as to maximise the treatment’s effect and the patients’ satisfaction.
How long does the treatment lasts?
Fotona's technology proposes many technical settings enabling a precise configuration of the laser energy. When put on the collagen-rich mucous membrane of the vagina, neocollagenesis and remodeling result. This generates a contraction and tightening effect on the vaginal tissue. The contraction is not permanent and lasts from 12 to 18 months.
How does the tightening treatment work?
You don’t have to book an appointment with Dr. Marois before the treatment if you don’t suffer from urinary incontinence. However, you must provide a signed letter from your doctor or gynecologist certifying the integrality of your vaginal walls. Also, you need to present a negative Pap test as an essential prerequisite to the treatment.

The laser procedure is completed at Dr. Marois’s clinic by a physiotherapist specialized in Perineal Rehabilitation to maximize the success of the process as well as your satisfaction.

We schedule a first 1-hour appointment with the physiotherapist to complete an evaluation, explain the intervention in details, or give you advices on new behaviours or physical exercises you could integrate into your daily routine, if necessary.

We achieve the laser treatment during the second appointment that lasts between 30 and 45 minutes.

Finally, a third 60-minute appointment scheduled 4 to 6 weeks later allows us to share the results of the first treatment with you and evaluate the necessity of a second one. If necessary, we complete the second procedure on the spot.

We can consider additional interventions according to the severity of the initial slackening.
