Aesthetic revision of circumcision

The revision of circumcision is a procedure designed to correct the appearance of the penis after an earlier circumcision. About 5 to 10% of men have problems after circumcision that may require correction. Many men circumcised at birth or later, are not satisfied with the appearance of their penis and some experience embarrassment or loss of self-esteem. As a result, men may have difficulty establishing and maintaining intimate relationships. The revision of circumcision is a plastic surgery intervention adapted to the anatomical needs of each patient, in order to provide better results. This minor surgery can be performed in all our clinics, under local anesthesia.

Why are the reasons for having a circumcision revised?
Some men have an unequal and very pronounced circumcision scar and simply want to remove it. Other men experience chronic, constant pain or irritation from the scar of circumcision.

Sometimes one side of the penis may have excessive or uneven skin that can be corrected. Circumcision scar contours can be excessive, wide and uneven. An old circumcision, sometimes incomplete, can cause trauma and pain or difficulty in proper hygiene.
How does the surgery unfold?
Depending on the complexity of the corrections to be made, the operative time is generally much longer than a first circumcision. Different techniques can be used depending on the nature of the problem, in order to get the best results possible.

The patient is placed on his back and a screen is installed at the patient's head to avoid seeing the intervention. After local anesthesia, Dr. Marois disinfects the area and sterile fields are set up. Anesthesia is always checked before starting the surgery. If necessary, we use additional anesthesia.

There is usually skin marking to define the limits of the revision. Different instruments can be used to ensure perfectly circular excision of the skin, such as a scalpel or an electrocauter.

Finally, there is an aesthetic closure with surgical glue: it is the most aesthetic closure choice. There is no secondary scar marking as for a cutaneous suture! This closing technique is possible only if the edges of the closure can be perfectly aligned. At the end of the circumcision, a compressive circular bandage is applied. Polysporin is also used extensively to prevent the dressing from sticking to the wound.
