Preparation before a dilatation of the urethral meatus

An Ativan may be offered one hour before the procedure.

Anti-coagulant medication should usually be stopped a few days before surgery. Aspirin therapy can sometimes be continued at low doses.

In prevention of an infection, you are likely to receive a dose of antibiotic before the procedure.
